As well as being a place where books are read, borrowed and enjoyed, the library fulfills a wider role in the community. Residents and visitors to Weipa are welcome to join the Library and can choose from a collection of titles, spanning popular fiction, classic literature, leisure, lifestyle and personal development. Titles are available in a variety of formats, including books, large print books, magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks. Language, literature and Bookclub sets can be requested from the State Library.
The Hibberd Library also provides public computers with internet access, as well as printing, scanning and faxing facilities. If you have emails to send or word processing to do, you can do it here. The library is also home to the Broadband for Seniors program. The government-funded scheme provides Australians aged over 50 with free access to computer and Internet training and is designed to encourage computer literacy.
